bbc: Curry spice ‘kills cancer cells’

An extract found in the bright yellow curry spice turmeric can kill off cancer cells, scientists have shown.

The chemical – curcumin – has long been thought to have healing powers and is already being tested as a treatment for arthritis and even dementia.

Now tests by a team at the Cork Cancer Research Centre show it can destroy gullet cancer cells in the lab.

Cancer experts said the findings in the British Journal of Cancer could help doctors find new treatments.

Dr Sharon McKenna and her team found that curcumin started to kill cancer cells within 24 hours.

They have spent a decade researching the insecticidal properties of rosemary, thyme, clove and mint.

Just  add an organic chamomile tea bag and 2 teaspoons of honey, brew for 10 minutes. Even better add some ginger for a bit of ‘zing’ and added herbal

Always be careful of taking too much of one herb for long periods, you can develop a toxicity to a herb, this means it builds up to high levels in the body, this is not necessarily dangerous but often means the herb will have the opposite effect than it would if there were no toxicity. For example Lavenda (Lavandula) is a hypnotic (which doesn’t mean you can hypnotize people with it but aids sleep); If you have a toxicity to this herb it would act in reverse and become like a stimulant, the remedy for this is not to use any herb at high doses for longer than six months, or if you think you have a toxicity you should also avoid this for at least six months so the herb will eventually leave the body’s system and can be used again if desired.
